A Texas college Tuesday issued an unconvincing apology for what it described as "incorrect information" after multiple international applicants received a rejection letter stating that "Navarro College is not accepting international students from countries with confirmed Ebola cases."

The Federal Government has concluded plans to spend N1,593,287,500 on a one-day political jamboree disguised as HIV/AIDS conference in the Federal Capital Territory.

Findings indicated that the event would be used to market President Goodluck Jonathan’s ‘achievements’ in the health sector, particularly, the progress purportedly recorded against the AIDS pandemic.

‘WHAT kind of country is this”! An exasperated Bidemi yelled at nobody in particular. Bidemi who has his forwarding and clearing business in Apapa, was trapped in the traffic gridlock that stretched from Sanya Bus Stop to Apapa for over five hours last Tuesday.

At the end of the day’s business, Bidemi who lives in Shogunle, ran into another horrible traffic jam between Berliet Bus Stop and Ilasamaja, also on the ever-busy Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

The United States of America’s envoy to Nigeria, Ambassador James Entwistle, has denied reports that the US has refused to sell arms to Nigeria on account of human rights violation in the fight against insurgency in the country.

The founder and Chief Executive Officer of the popular social networking website, Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have donated N4bn to fight the Ebola Virus Disease.

Making the announcement on his Facebook page, Zuckerberg said they wanted to stop the epidemic before it got out of control to become a bigger, and more expensive, global issue to fight, like the HIV.

The presidency yesterday described an alleged report that President Goodluck Jonathan was planning to manipulate the constitution to extend his stay in office, as baseless and absolute falsehood.

It also pointed out the likes of former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, both aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were no match for President Jonathan saying apart from being serial losers, they are people Nigerians lack confidence in because they are bereft of leadership qualities.

Two parents from Atlanta, Georgia, were arrested for serving their 2-year-old son liquor, until he suffered from severe alcohol poisoning.

The 2-year-old boy was extremely unresponsive and stop breathing after he consumed an abundant amount of liquor. When authorities discovered the child he was rushed to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment.

No fewer than 4,493 people have died from the world’s worst Ebola outbreak on record, and the situation in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone is deteriorating, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday.

Some Electricity Consumers in the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday called for the scrapping of the monthly N750 fixed charge being charged by electricity distribution companies.

The consumers told the News Agency of Nigeria that it would amount to exploitation if the companies continued to retain the charge when services were not delivered.

Reporters from various news organizations were Thursday prevented from covering court proceedings in the trial of 59 soldiers charged with alleged mutiny.

When queried over the shutting out of journalists, the chairman of the all military court martial, Maj.-Gen. Musa Yusuf, explained that military authorities took the decision in the interest of national security.

Within the past three weeks, the Asset Forfeiture Unit in the office of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in South Africa seized two tranches of fund totalling $15million being payment for the alleged purchase of arms by the federal government. Initially, the sum of $9.3 million smuggled into South Africa by an Israeli and two Nigerians was seized last month.

A new Ebola scare resulted in the evacuation of an Air France plane yesterday by Madrid authorities. This happened after one of the passenger began shaking feverishly on the flight bound for Madrid from Lagos via Paris, prompting fears the person had Ebola, Air France and airports operator Aena said.

Thousands of Nigerians from all walks of life on Thursday trooped to the 60,000 capacity Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, to witness the inauguration of Mr Kayode Fayose as governor.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the stadium was full to the capacity with dignitaries, especially from PDP-controlled states in attendance.

In his inaugural speech, Fayose appealed to the media to be objective in the reportage of government activities to ensure peace and development.

The governor, who said that the financial position of the state left much to be desired, appealed to the people of the state to cooperate with his government to move the state forward.

We shall continue with the people-oriented programmes, rekindle and restore people’s hope and create an enabling environment for the development of the state.

Fayose of PDP won the June 21, governorship polls with 203,090 votes, defeating the incumbent governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who scored 120,433 votes.

Various cultural associations, musicians such as Yinka Ayefele, the Nupe cultural troop known as Igunu and other Yoruba groups at the occasion added colour to the occasion. (NAN)
