Germany Says They support Nigeria's Restructuring

Mr. Bernhard Schlagheck the German Ambassador to Nigeria, has voiced out the support of his country regarding the restructuring of the Nigeria economy. According to Mr. Bernhard Schlagheck says, Germany will support a Nigeria restructured into a more united and prosperous one which will be void of wrangling and he urged the people to respect the constitution of the land.

Mr Schlagheck who spoke during an interactive session with the leadership of the Enugu State Chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, in Enugu on Monday said, said that the Federal Republic of Germany had confidence in Nigeria’s ability to deal decently with the call for the restructuring of the country for a more equitable nation as it where.

Finally he urged every stakeholder to ensure that the constitution of the land is respected and also the territorial integrity of the country.

“We are very much interested in seeing a decent constitutional process and plead with all stakeholders to respect the Nigerian Constitution and territorial integrity.

“I am quite confident that the Nigerian people and their representatives in the parliament will take appropriate steps to make the restructuring process successful for the people of Nigeria.

“Let all stakeholders abide by the constitution and bring in what they have to say in the discussion process and make Nigeria better, prosperous and more successful.”

Schlagheck said that his country was concerned about the effects of the agitations in parts of the country on future elections.

Responding to Mr. Bernhard Schlagheck remarks was Chief Chiedozie Ogbonnia, who is the President of the state chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo. According to him, the agitations for self rule by the South-East arosed out of the feeling of marginalisation by the Federal power.

Chief Ogbonnia said the main purpose for the agitation was to secure a better condition for the people of the area in a united Nigeria.

According to Chief Ogbonna, the agitation and fight for the restructuring of the country had become a national discourse and imperative to give all sections of the country equal sense of belonging in a united Nigeria.

He also advised that before the 2019 general election, it would be in the interest of the entire Nation that all matters that relates to the restructuring of the country are sorted out before the 2019 general elections.

Chief Ogbonnia said the zone was working with other regions of the country to ensure a process that would keep intact the unity of the country.

“The type of federation we run in Nigeria is not like others elsewhere in the world. We have to do away with the feelings of injustice in the country,” Ogbonnia said.

A friend of mine, once said this... " These politicians must tell us what politics is because it has turned good men to evil men." This is true and a perfect one. For example, those who have clamoured for Restructuring over the years suddenly have gone mute on the subject matter. In fact most f them who still have the guts to talk now vehemently oppose the idea of restructuring.

The question that bears to mind is this. Why are the most developed Nations in the for the restructuring og Nigeria and some Nigerians are against it? Malam el rufai the governor of Kaduna State was a staunch support of restructuring but today, he opposes it with a tight grip. What an irony of life. Governor Rochas told his own side that 'What Nigeria Needs is not restructuring but packaging. These men once supported the motion for restructuring in this Nation.
