Giants Of History: Lateef Ibirogba Lauches Book On World Heroes by zenconsultant(: 9:17 am On May 10, 2014
The Lagos state commissioner for Information Lateef Ibirogba, has written a book on 150 selected great men and women in history whose lives were exemplars of tenacity, dedication, leadership, and hard work .
Lateef Ibirogba, a journalist and politician said of the different men from all over the world that “the only thing that ties them together as deserving of being in the book is the extraordinarily notable lives they lived, the number of lives they touched, the power of their example, and their tremendous influence on the generations that followed them.”
The book was launched in Lagos on April 22nd at the Civic Center, Lagos. The book reviewer, Tade Ipadeola is a lawyer cum creative writer, and winner of the 2013 Nigerian Prize for Literature (the highest literary prize on the continent).
It is important to mention that one of the impressive nature of a work of this kind is its good sense to include in the work not just historical figures from older civilizations around the world, like Plato, Aristotle, Isaac Newton, Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, but also notable historical figures from our own national environment, like Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Mary Slessor, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Madam Tinubu, Fela Kuti, Chinua Achebe, among many others.
A point of departure in the history of books in this genre is the development of a card game, aptly called The Game of Giants, in tandem with this book. This is bound to make the essence of the book travel beyond the printed page. This game, inspired by the Giants of History book, has many editions, but the rules are basic. There are 52 cards in all, a pair of dice and numerous opportunities to discover great personalities of history in random, play-setting situations. All work and no play, the saying goes, makes everyone a bit of a bore.
The Paradigm invites you to look out for the book, and to buy not just for yourself, but for your relatives, especially the young ones not yet sure of where life would take them, or what the point of everything is.
The book, Giants of History and the game, The Game of Giants are both available for purchase for now at http://www.digitalbooks.com.ng.
