John Cena To Face Alberto Del Rio For World Heavyweight Title At Hell In A Cell by toyboyz(m) : 5:37 pm On Oct 09, 2013
WWE has officially announced John Cena will take on Alberto Del Rio at h3ll in a Cell for the World Heavyweight Championship.
It's shocking news. Cena has been out of action ever since losing the WWE title to Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam on August 18. He was suffering from an elbow injury and subsequently had surgery a few days later, via Cena's Twitter account.
He has already proclaimed that he'll return stronger than ever.
Former WWE official Jimmy Korderas wondered if Cena will be making his return a bit too early.
Del Rio provided his thoughts on Cena:
On paper, a match between Cena and Del Rio could be a lot of fun to watch. ADR's finisher is the cross armbreaker, so you'd have the drama of whether or not he could lock in the move on Cena's injured arm and finish the match.
Cena's return also stabilizes what was previously a very muddy, unknown World Heavyweight Championship picture. The pickings for Del Rio's next opponent were pretty slim up to this point.
Rey Mysterio has yet to return from injury, while guys like Damien Sandow and Dolph Ziggler aren't in a position where they'd be credible title challengers, let alone titleholders.
One of the most accomplished wrestlers in the company, Cena has held the WHC just twice, with the last reign coming back in 2009. Seeing him challenge for that belt could add some freshness to his character and open up feuds with guys who would have previously been excluded.
This news will also get fans talking about the next pay-per-view for all the right reasons, which is exactly what the company needs after Battleground's controversial finish Sunday night.
